Us is a private app for two people. This page explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and how to delete it.

What we collect

Account. When you start, we create an anonymous account ID. If you choose to link Google or, on iPhone and iPad, Apple (Settings, "Keep us safe"), we also receive the name and email that provider shares with us, which may be a private relay address if you use Apple's "Hide My Email". This lets you recover your connection on a new phone.

Your profile. The name you enter, what you call your partner, an anniversary date and an optional profile photo.

What you share. Photos, status lines, emoji, moods, notes, rituals, pulses (hearts, hugs and so on), reactions and the time each was sent. Only the person you are paired with can see these.

Your city (optional). Only if you turn on "Share my city". We read your approximate position once (to about 1 km), keep it in a private area that only you and our servers can read, and turn it into a city name and a distance rounded to 5 km. Your partner sees the city name and the rounded distance. They never receive coordinates. Turning the switch off removes the distance.

Notifications. A push token for your phone so we can tell you when your partner shares something.

Crash reports. If the app crashes we receive a crash report through Firebase Crashlytics: the technical error, the app version, your phone model and operating system version. Crash reports never include your photos, notes, names or location, and we do not link them to you.

On your phone. Widgets keep a copy of your partner's latest moment on your device so they can show it without a network.

We do not collect your contacts, your precise location, advertising IDs or browsing activity. We use no analytics or advertising SDKs, apart from crash reports, and we do not track you.

Photos

Before a photo leaves your phone we remove its metadata, including any location data. Photos are stored in private cloud storage and are reachable only through unguessable links kept in your couple's private data.

Who handles your data

We use Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Messaging and Crashlytics) to run the app. Your data is stored in Google's Mumbai region (asia-south1). Push notifications are delivered through Apple's and Google's notification services. If you link Google or Apple, Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple is used. These providers process data for us and do not use it for their own advertising. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with anyone else.

How long we keep it

• While you are paired, until you delete it.
• If either of you unpairs, your shared moments are kept for 30 days in case you reconnect, then permanently deleted.
• If you delete your account, your account and profile are deleted straight away and the shared moments follow within 30 days.
• Invite codes expire after 24 hours and are removed shortly afterwards.

Your choices

• Turn off city sharing, notifications or discreet mode in the app at any time.
• Unpair, or delete your account, from Settings. See us.winkle.dev/delete-account.
• To ask for a copy of your data or for deletion without the app, write to contact@winkle.dev from the email linked to your account.

Children

Us is not for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
